Fabio Is In The Building

No, unfortunately, not THIS Fabio…

(always looking for a way to post that picture LOL).

And definitely NOT this one (sorry, but nicknaming him Fabio is just WRONG!!! He’s Jud from Survivor Nicaragua)

But THIS Fabio is in my home:

Some of you may remember the Christmas gift that couldn’t be: Hubs had ordered it and the manufacturer (in Japan) kept shipping the wrong one and by the time they shipped the correct one, they’d upped the price by a good $600, so it was priced out of our range.

Hubs, wonderful man that he is, found another one. And it was delivered today. And I’ve been in it for the last five hours or so and I think I might just sleep here.

It does your back, your neck, your legs and your feet. And it’s a comfy writing chair when not using the massage function. A home run for Hubs in the gift-giving department. [And you can make of THAT sentence what you will 😉 ]

So now I have my very own Fabio, so named by my Writing Wombat friends and I can honestly say that since I can’t have the real one give me a massage, I’ll take this one.

Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Holidays to all!

RT 2010- aka Kate Douglas Likes My Ass

Gotcha, huh? We’ll get to the Kate Douglas part in a bit, but I wanted to give a recap of my RT adventure.

I had been planning to blog while I was at RT, as i have for the past 3 years but I honestly didn’t have time (nor internet–why do the hotels have to charge us $10/day for internet? I know, because they can, but ever since I got my baby Jennifer, I can check my email without paying that).

So here are the pictures. And I’ll apologize in advance for the lack of them. It really was a whirlwind week.

Cover model Jimmy Thomas. Sadly, I had to leave on Saturday before he did his cover shoot workshop. Luckily, I got the chance for my own photo shoot with him on Wednesday.

Mary Janice Davidson and Charlaine Harris carried on with their workshop even though Jim Butcher’s plane had him stuck in Chicago. A definite comedy show not to be missed.

Sabrina Jeffries is a hoot! If you ever get the chance to have a chat with her, I highly recommend it.

An Ohio Wombatogether: Pat and Sia. We spent the night at Pat’s house, and, honestly, it was too short!!

Wombat and blogger extraordinaire, Sia McKye, and my critique partner, Stephanie Julian, dressed for the vampire ball.

Jim Butcher signing at the e–book expo

I like seeing my name on the same box as these two. 🙂

I was so pleasantly surprised at the people who brought my books in for me to sign them, and for all the people who stopped by to pick up any/all of my Mer series.

and here’s one of them, Jill Fazio

Now to the part about Kate Douglas, who is a wonderful lady. And funny!! A joy to have lunch with.

So, a few days after our lunch and running into each other during the conference, I was sitting in the bar (ooh, big surprise, I know), with my back to the meeting rooms lobby, when Kate walks up behind me and says, “I knew that was you. I recognized your ass.”

um… ok??? That’s one I haven’t heard. I normally get, “I recognized you from your hair,” so I’m prepared for that. But my ass???? LOL.

And then she proceeds to tell me it’s a nice ass.

Thank you, Kate. 🙂  As I told you in our emails, though, I’ll trade you my ass for your build. 🙂

Ah, the friends you make at conferences – and the bonds you share. 🙂

Janet Evanovich was our speaker this morning. There’s a reason this woman writes humor!

OFFICIAL FIRST: Sighting of In Over Her Head in a bookstore!

Beth Hill, fellow Wombat, editor and author extraordinaire, and all around amazing human being, took these photos at her local Barnes & Noble near Atlanta.

All I can say (amidst the tears) is Thank You, Beth.

(and now please allow for some sappy self-indulgence…)

We Have A Title!

As you may know, my editor emailed me saying they wanted a different title for Book 2 in the Mer series. Instead of Whale of a Tail, they wanted something more reflective of the series. So, I put the call out and you guys sent the submissions in fast and furious.

My editor needed the list yesterday of everyone’s submission. These were the top 10:

Going Off The Deep End

Going Overboard

Hooked On You

In Too Deep

Off The Hook

Out Of The Blue

Splash And Burn

Swept Away

Tide up in Knots

Wild Blue Under

And the winner is………………..

Wild Blue Under

And, more importantly to you all I’m sure, the person who nominated Wild Blue Under and who will have a character named after her is Lisa Brackmann, otherwise known as Lisa, “Queen Wombat“!

Congrats, Lisa, and thanks to everyone for helping out! This book is due out next August.

The Blurb:

Rod Tritone, heir to the throne of the undersea world, needs a queen capable of ruling the oldest kingdom on earth. Someone regal, learned and of noble birth. Problem is, the only eligible noble-born Mer princess is half-Human – and she doesn’t have a clue about the non-Human part.

Valerie Dumere has screwed up her life at every turn. Trying to please her over-protective, single mom while searching for that special “something” in her life, she’s made more than a few bad decisions. But when her mother dies and leaves her the family business, Val realizes it’s up to her to buckle down and get her life on track. No more excuses.

So when a guy shows up claiming to be her destiny, she scoffs. No way. She isn’t running away from her responsibilities ever again – no matter how good the guy looks without a shirt.

But Rod isn’t going away. He can’t claim his inheritance without her – and Val will lose hers if she goes with him.

It’s going to take one whale of a tale to get her to chuck it all and follow him off into the wild blue under…

Wombatogether in Sausalito

Last night, six of The Writing Wombats, and two Wombat Fanciers (term coined by Dave a Wombat Fancier, and will be added into the Lexicon per the Queen) had a Wombatogether in Sausalito at the Yacht Club followed by dinner at The Spinnaker Restaurant.

This is my group from Gather, who have weathered several of the Gather contests, have created their own contests, shared ups and downs both in our writing lives and our personal lives and who have, on occasion, made arrangements to meet. This Wombatogether was the largest group yet.

Top 20 Finalist

Yes, it’s been over a year since my last post. From the title of this post, I think it’s pretty self-explanatory why.

Sad, I know.

On the upside, it’s also been a productive year. I entered the original Gather.com/Simon&Schuster First Chapters contest with Beauty and The Best. It finished in the Top 20 out of over 2,700 entries and was the only Romance in the bunch. Then, Gather did another First Chapters contest, this time strictly for Romance. My latest story, In Over Her Head, finished in the Top 5, but more importantly, garnered me multiple agent offers and I signed with my agent – all in approximately two weeks. What a great two weeks that was!

So now I’m in wait mode as the manuscript makes the rounds in NY and I’m working on edits to other manuscripts and the muse is chatting away with new ideas.

I’m so thankful for all the support from those who emailed me to enter the First Chapters Romance contest – people who had only known of me through the original First Chapters contest and who embraced In Over Her Head every bit as much as they did Beauty and The Best. I write because I have to, but it’s so gratifying to have people enjoy my stories.

Here’s hoping by next year this time I’ll have book news to share. If not, I’ll still be writing.
